FAA to Recognize Galveston Air Traffic Controllers
    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FAA to Recognize Galveston Air Traffic Controllers
    Galveston, Texas
    December 16, 2008

On Wednesday, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will recognize and honor Galveston Air Traffic Controllers for their work before and after Hurricane Ike. Controllers worked night and day, sleeping and eating on site, to restore airport operations in the days following the storm. Their commitment proved invaluable in the disaster response efforts.

“Their quick response immediately following the storm enabled the airport to operate in safe and effective manner,” commented Hud Hopkins, Director of Scholes International Airport. “The Air Traffic Controllers were able to bring in the military along with search and rescue units to assist in recovery efforts both on Galveston Island and Bolívar Peninsula,” Hopkins added.

The recognition ceremony will be held on Wednesday, December 17th at 2:00 p.m. at the nearby Lone Star Flight Museum.
